Who are the illegal agents?
Illegal agents are people who pass themselves off as placement agencies, but who in reality:
- Have no VAT number nor a registered business
- Do not issue regular contracts or receipts
- Ask you for money in advance to "reserve your place" or for "deposits that are not due"
- Disappear after taking your money
- Leave you alone in foreign cities without support
- Have no physical office nor any verifiable online presence

How to protect yourself: the verification checklist
1. Check the VAT number
Every serious agency MUST have a valid, verifiable VAT number (Partita IVA). You can check for free on the website of the Italian Revenue Agency:

Serious agencies have social profiles verified by Meta (blue tick on Facebook and Instagram). This badge certifies the authenticity of the account and drastically reduces the risk of scams.
4. Never Pay Advances to the Agency
Serious agencies NEVER ask you for money in advance. Beware of anyone asking you for "deposits", "registration fees", "bookings" or any other payment before you start working. The deposit, if required, is withheld ONLY by the venue (not by the agency) and ONLY from your pay after you have started.
